Red Ribbon Week and PTA
Red Ribbon Week is October 27th – Oct 31st 2014 at Tulita.
The focus of the week will be teaching our students how to make smart, healthy choices in their lives and empowering them by showing the students strategies to do this successfully.
As part of our Red Ribbon Week awareness and following up from our parent presentation on Oct 10th, we are excited to invite back Pattie Fitzgerald, children’s author and founder of Safely Ever After, Inc, to speak to all our students on October 29th per grade level.
Pattie has written two outstanding books for elementary school aged children, No Trespassing-This Is MY Body! which gently talks about being in charge of your own body and safe “thumbs up touches”, and Super Duper Safety School, which takes her safety rules for kids and explains them in non-fearful, child-friendly language.
Assembly Schedules on Wednesday October 29th
- TK-K: 8.30 am
- 1st and 2nd: 10:20 am
- 3rd-5th: 9:20 am
Each assembly will run for approximately 40 minutes. For more information on Safely Ever After Inc. or to order Pattie’s books, visit www.safelyeverafter.com and books may be purchased on Amazon.com.

WHAT IS PTA?
PTA (Parent Teacher Association) is the largest volunteer child advocacy organization in the nation,
National PTA is the conscience of the country for children and youth issues. Through advocacy, as well
as family and community education, National PTA has established programs and called for legislation that
improves our children’s lives.
For more than 100 years, National Parent Teacher Association (National PTA®) has worked toward
bettering the lives of every child in education, health and safety. Founded in 1897 as the National
Congress of Mothers by Alice McLellan Birney and Phoebe Apperson Hearst, National PTA is a powerful
voice for all children, a relevant resource for families and communities, and a strong advocate for public
WHY SHOULD I JOIN PTA?
PTA connects families and schools. By joining PTA you show your children that school matters, and that
you are invested in their success. Your PTA membership gives the California State PTA a voice in
legislation and advocacy. PTA helps ensure that parents have a seat at the table when important
decisions that affect schools are made. PTA works together to improve the education, health and safety
of all children.
Three decades of research proves that students achieve higher grades, have better attendance and more
consistently complete homework when parents are involved – and just the act of joining PTA is a great
way to get involved.
